These stylish NEW PHONES promise to ring your bell
1. LG KE770, $199 pre paid
The stainless-steel LGKE770 is a sleek, stylish addition to the market. It features an MP3 player, WAP internet access, two-megapixel camera, video camera, bluetooth and external memory capability. A two-megapixel camera is common, but viewing photos is improved here by the high-quality mirror-effect screen. Like the Sony Ericsson, multimedia applications such as the camera are viewed on the screen sideways.
It is difficult to tell the difference between the flat keys which could be annoying if you use predictive texting. A reply could go from “I'm eating in the bar” to “I'm dating in the car”. Very dangerous. Still, the LG is a light, affordable, elegant phone with all the essentials.
2. Sony Ericsson, K660i $399
The funky Sony Ericsson K660i is an affordable phone with a bit of everything. At just $399 you get a lot for your loot – two-megapixel camera, internet, video, music player and radio. The organiser is well set out and you can easily transfer files via Bluetooth or the USB cord provided. It is very internet friendly for a small phone with handy search, bookmarks, homepage and zoom shortcut keypads. You won't need a street directory because it has Google Maps for Mobile software built in. Internet and camera functions are viewed sideways. The highlights are the easy-to-use navigation, helpful pop-up instructions and 3D games. This phone is user friendly, well priced and has plenty of character.
3. Palm Treo 750, Smartphone $999
The big daddy of mobiles, the Palm Treo is just as much a computer as a phone. The excellent applications include all the Windows Mobile 6 essentials such as Media Player, Outlook and Office software including Word, Powerpoint and Excel. The small qwerty keyboard is very easy to use. Although it can take a while to send an email, you'll get quicker with practice. The touch screen also has a keyboard feature. My favourite feature is the chat-style view for messages which enables you to keep track of who said what. The phone is bulkier than most but this enables the screen to be big enough to view internet pages easily. Overall this is a sensible, grown-up phone, ideal for work use.
4. Apple iPhone 3G
The much-anticipated Apple iPhone 3G will be released on July 11, hot on the heels of the first Australian Apple store being opened in Sydney. The new iPhone 3G will supposedly be cheaper and faster than first-generation iPhone Touch and is like an iPod, computer and phone all in one. Features include built-in GPS mapping, high-speed internet, video and a touch screen. Apple triumphs again with stylish design and clever marketing hype.
